Cant believe how much lighter the harness is than than the older one that i have. Some how they made this harness lighter without compromiseing quality or how safe i feel wearing it. Have the ability to move more freely in the tree and not feel wore out from wearing a heavy harness at the end of the day. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.
I am a female hunter, and weigh in at 120# and 5'3". Finding a harness to fit me is difficult. I'm not sure where manuf. get the wisdom to create safety gear that fits hunters more than double the size (ranges 120-300). Getting a harness adjusted small enough for me is a challenge. I decided to try a youth harness, thinking it might be better suited to my size.
My Gorilla Gear G-Tac Air review: The packaging took me a full 10 min. to get into the box without completely destroying it. The box has so much tape and glue holding the flaps together I needed scissors and a knife to open it up. I was a little worried I would cut the harness in the process.
I love how lightweight the harness is; that there aren’t a lot of added “features” (keeping the weight low); and that the SRD is attached and releases with a quick-release tab.
The waist belt just fits around my back to my sides, however, I was surprised that the rest of the strapping is so LONG. The leg straps have more than a 12” tail, putting the strap ends right in the crotch area – and when you’re sitting in a stand for hours, it can become a bit awkward. I’ll need to trim these ends if I keep the harness. I can say that the wider part of the leg straps, which is where you’ll be “seated” in a fall, seem to be placed appropriately for me.
Although the box claims, “long tether so you never miss a shot,” the tether strap is much too short for my preference. I share stands with others, so with a tether 6” shorter than the standard adult-sized harness, we’ll have to place two different tree straps in stands that are shared. I understand that you don’t want a significant drop, but I’m not sure 6” would make a huge difference.
The quick-connect buckles are a bonus, however, they aren’t silent. There IS some rattling in the buckles while buckled, so I’m not sure how noisy they might be with a little movement in the stand.
PLEASE design a harness for smaller statures - maybe 80#-140# range? It would be e...
